There is another view on the episode with Lionel Richie at:
http://familyforest.wordpress.com/2011/03/20/

What I do not understand about these shows is why they show the celebrity and even the librarian/genealogist at times handle these old records and books without any gloves.
When I visited the Delaware Hall of Records you always had to wear gloves to handle any of these type of fragile old resources.

I don't think Mark discussed this kind of detail on the show, or I don't remember.

In the episode, they said Morgan W. was Dr. Morgan Brown's son. If you found that Morgan W. died in 1853, then it sounds like he did fulfill his father's will and freed Mariah and Louis before the Civil War, unless there was a Morgan W. Brown III who owned them later.

During the BlogTalkRadio show, did Mark Lowe discuss who the Morgan W. Brown referenced on John Louis Brown's pension application actually was? The episode implied he was Dr. Morgan Brown's son, but it does not look as though he could have been, because that Morgan W. Brown apparently died in 1853.
