The first day of IAJGS has come and gone. I am finished with two out of three presentations.
I started off far too early with the first computer lab of the week. I didn’t sleep great because of something I ate. Because I have access, I knew I had four people signed up. Only two showed up, but I worked with them and customized the lab more for them. I saw the other two eventually. One arrived late and the other didn’t know she had paid because her registration didn’t print a ticket. I left attendance sheets on the computer for the whole week. When I checked back later, there was a different comouter, so I didn’t bother to do that again.
I stopped I the Resource Room before it was open and found Mark Heckman working on fixing computers again. (I helped with such a thing yesterday too.) Then I went to kunch with him and Kathy.
I wasted time waiting for my other lecture. I talked with Adam Brown for a while about Antarctica and stuff.
The speaker before me didn’t want to shut up and leave the room. Eventually he left and others didn’t want to stop talking. I had four people in my lecture. I think I got up to six, but had two left at the end. When I was finished, one told me ten minutes left. I lectured to one person. The lecture that took me at least a month of research and struggling to finish the powerpoint was for one person. I will never do such a lecture again.
The keynote was kind of boring. I didn’t pay that much attention. It was like listening to any random attendee drone on about their genealogy and it wasn’t relevant or interesting enough to actually pay attention to while a little tired.
After the reception, I sat with Daniel for dinner but I did not eat. MyH people showed up and the conversation turned to work stuff, so I headed out.
I can’t post this publicly. Maybe I’ll write another post summarizing multiple days later.
