SSDD

Got some yard work done. I trimmed back the rose bushes in the front of the yard. I took out the large, dead branches. The one on the left looked so small and thin afterwards. The other two had a lot more to them. In fact, I should probably trim back more from the middle one still. I also had to cut down a large trunk of the thundercloud because it had snapped off already.

I started to reassemble my fence also. Just put the poles back together since the landscapers took the bolts with them. I should’ve put the poles back a long time ago; it would have kept everyone from walking through the flower garden.

And that was about all I did as far as productivity for the day. I still haven’t run a schedule to do things and probably should. I will definitely put yard work into the mix if I ever get to that; there’s so much left to do. All the weeds are growing back and they need to be killed and buried under gravel.

Too Much Procrastinating

I need to get started on doing some yard work. I’m not going to expect to find a landscaper and I may just bill Craig for his web site for the past two years. I also have two newsletters to put together. I started my family newsletter and need to get back to it and finish and send it out this month. I hate to get it out this late but I really hate getting it out later. And I need to read more, but that’s always true.

I slept about four hours last night. I’m tired earlier today; doesn’t look like I’m staying up until the sun comes up today. I need to get my schedule shoved around before the end of the month.

Always so much to do and I get so little done. I was going to use a schedule today to accomplish things and I forgot until just now. OK, maybe tomorrow. Well, maybe not. I want to go to the JCC and take flyers to the FHL and Kol Ami for our meeting which is now less than two weeks away.

Do I seriously expect to lose 10 pounds in less than two weeks? I was well under 1000 calories a day and gained weight. Somehow I don’t see it happening anymore. My genetics suck.

Hotmail Really Sucks

Helped John Winders get his email working better today. Took hours. His computer went to Outlook when he clicked on email links in web pages and it wasn’t set up. He couldn’t figure out how to copy the email and use Hotmail. I actually found it in the context menu, but it was screwed up. In the end, somehow Eudora worked when Outlook wouldn’t. He’s better off with Eudora anyways. But how I got it to receive mail, and still not send, I have no idea.

Not much else. Still working on Budapest records for Cornelia. Meant to go to the FHL and stop by the JCC on the way, but John’s computer problem was uncooperative. To the FHL today then, after I wake up. Schedule is shifting back to more normal for me. I’ll need to shove it forward again soon for the NGS conference at the end of the month. I want to go to some earlier things at that. Their opening session is early in the morning.

JGSLA finally put up the schedule for this year’s conference. They’ve got me in the last slot before lunch on Monday. And Jordan’s doing Jeopardy again. I did that last year. As fun as it was, I don’t expect to repeat it, especially since I’ll have to be friendly to him. After last year, I don’t even want his friendship anymore. I wanted it for far too long and he never deserved mine.

Party and Programming

Went to Rochelle’s 60th birthday party. Alan and Andalin showed up eventually, so there were other people I knew. Had fun anyways.

Still working on my new FFF web site. Should be working for clients. Not prepared to go to the FHL today so will now plan to watch WDYTYA tonight and go downtown on Saturday. Must get some client organizing done for that.

Also, need to get back in touch with John, web site development client. It’s been since early in my cold that I last contacted him. I will need to do a lot of custom programming for his site, and integrating WordPress into it. I need to give him a rough estimate of the time/costs but haven’t even begun to think about that. I hate trying to estimate time; I suck at it.

Must still write a blog entry about the UJGS meeting.

Katie reminded me of Script Frenzy; I’d already gotten an email about it. I can’t think of anything to write except for something about David Tennant. What else is on my mind? But I wouldn’t know what to write. I’m a songwriter; I write vignettes. I can take five seconds of emotions and turn it into a four minute song, but I’m not loaded with complete stories. The NaNoWriMo novels are difficult enough. The only script I could think to write right now would be the Doctor Who episode I’ve been mulling over in my head, but it has no story. I’ve got a new companion and how they meet, lots of other details about her that would be revealed over time, and nothing else. That would make for a short script.

New Site Going Well

Got some research at the FHL for Michael.

Been working on my new FFF site. Got the name indexes and descendent trees automated so I won’t have to draw up those trees anymore. Those looked nice but were a drag to draw. I suppose I could try to automate those, but it’s more work than I want to do just now. I’d rather update the web site. I still have to update the database with a lot of new information for this year and finish the FFF newsletter.

Today is Rochelle’s birthday. I plan to drop in to her party.

I didn’t write up a blog entry for the UJGS meeting Monday night. It was a great success and we’re going to repeat that topic once every year. But it needs to be renamed. I’ve got a while to think of something clever.

Sore Throat

It started Sunday and has gotten worse each day. Am I at the hump and will get better? I hope so. I don’t feel sick otherwise, but it makes me feel sick nonetheless.

Roger started chatting with me then called. He’s fun to talk to. He won’t be in L.A. but will consider NGS in SLC, so maybe I’ll see him then.

Productive Enough

I woke up today at 6am and couldn’t get back to sleep. So I stayed up and was reasonably productive. Had two more estimates for the floor, one from a guy who was here last year and remembered. His other web site person fell through and he mentioned that, but we didn’t really discuss bartering. Maybe after the last of my estimates, I’ll call and we’ll talk.

I got more of Joel’s organizing done and have more to go. Maybe I’ll get some more done tonight before I pass out. And I have to prep for an FHL visit tomorrow. Crista Cowan is giving a lecture to SLC APG and I am planning to go, though no guarantees at 11:30am. Doesn’t matter if I’ve been waking up between 7 and 8am all week, there’s no telling what will happen tomorrow. But the plan is to go to that, then do research, then dessert with Dean Richardson. Just got dessert from him tonight, but he planned two nights. He runs Genlighten.com and wanted to meet his local providers. I met him in Philly at the IAJGS conference. He was one of the other tweeters, but he was stuck in the vendor room and could just tweet about the chocolate he had to entice us to visit. We discussed his web site and other random things.

New Web Client

I met with someone who found Great Bird on Google, amazingly enough. Is it because I finally updated just a bit that my page rank increased? Or maybe he was using specific keywords that just worked out.

He wanted to know if I could program a wiki. I told him that there are enough free ones already written. After meeting him, I determined that he needs a search engine and not a wiki. I’m looking into content management. I really hope I don’t decide to redo all my sites with this. Especially since I just started this blog and they have blogs built in. I’m trying Drupal first. If I don’t figure it out quickly, I might suggest a custom programmed site. That’s more my style anyways. I just thought I’d try to save myself the trouble.

We’ll see.

Not Much Today

So I didn’t get much done. I got another estimate for the floors and scheduled a couple others. I finished up a blog post for someone else’s blog — he asked questions and I wrote the post. Might have gotten more of Joel’s work done, but was too tired and went back to bed, but stayed awake and watched my shows, House and Heroes.

I did spend some time earlier looking at WordPress widgets. I think I need to start adding more stuff onto my blog and totally integrate it into my web site. The integration will take some time, but adding could be pretty easy. I just need to set up links for the RSS feed (already have one, but want better), easy links for Twitter and possibly Facebook (I may even include the whole social networking set), and just other stuff that I’ve been thinking about a little.

I started drafting a couple more blog entries yesterday. Don’t know if I’ll get to working more on those tonight before I go to sleep. I didn’t get enough sleep last night and I’m tired now, so likely not.

The last ever nighttime launch of a space shuttle was this morning around 4am. I saw a video of it after I got up. The space shuttle program ends this year. I wasn’t keeping up well but they apparently just cancelled a planned get-us-into-space project. They also don’t have the next generation of ships ready to go, so we’ll kind of be grounded for a bit. That’s sad.

Tomorrow I have another floor estimate and a meeting with a lawyer about a web site. Right, I wanted to look into what kind of program might work for him. He said a wiki, but I’m thinking there might be something else.

Blogging and Working

I am definitely getting into the blogging environment, reading more of other people’s blogs and even commenting finally. And I’m starting to figure out who all these genealogists on Twitter are.

Working on Joel’s organizing slowly, but I’ll get it done. And started new blog entries, to be edited and posted in the future. I still haven’t slacked off again, which is good. I need to get back to my own research though and get all the Facebook information sourced and into the database, and then put together the newsletter. Wednesday night is the UJGS work meeting, so I think I’ll save it for then.
